Sary-Chelek lake

The lake is surrounded by amazingly beautiful and diverse landscapes: mountain ranges with snow-capped peaks, rapid rivers and quiet swamps, mountain taiga and alpine meadows, but the main wealth of these places is walnut and fruit forests.

Sary-Chelek lake is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Central Asia. It is located on the territory of the nature reserve of the same name at an altitude of 1,940 meters above sea level. The area of ​​the lake is more than 500 hectares. Sary-Chelek is the third deepest lake in Central Asia and the second deepest in Kyrgyzstan. Sary-Chelek means "yellow water vessel" in Kyrgyz.

You can fish in the lake, and pick raspberries on the nearby slopes.

There are several opinions about formation of Sary-Chelek lake. According to some scientists, it appeared due to an earthquake and collision of two mountain ranges, as a result of which a rock collapse blocked Khoja-Ata River.
