The Arashan gorge is rich in hot springs and vast fir forests. Due to the great natural diversity, the gorge has long been recognized as a specially protected area.
"Altyn-Arashan" is translated from the Kyrgyz as "golden spring". Local hot springs have healing properties thanks to radon and hydrogen sulfide content in the water. The temperature of the hot springs is from + 35 to + 40 degrees Celsius.
The Altyn-Arashan gorge is located near Karakol city and is considered one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kyrgyzstan, largely due to the fact that the route to the high altitude Ala-Kul Lake runs through the gorge. The lake is located at an altitude of 3,800 meters above the sea level.
Another attraction is of interest for tourist in these places - Aksu wall, it is also called Palatka (Tent) peak because of its unusual trapezoidal shape.
Altyn-Arashan is often used by tourist guides as a base camp on the way to other valleys, gorges and peaks of the Tien Shan mountains.
